« What kind of artist are you ? » says CSM. DeGoonik replies :
« Expressionist, and you ? ». CSM is taken back by this question, but remembers the two drawings he made, and the impression the second one made on the Grosshandels, so he answers « Impressionist ». « Good boy, keep it up » says deGoonik as he enters the express IRT train (CSM is waiting for the local). At the New School, CSM turns out to be a less-than-average pupil except in drawing and painting (termed « artwork » in the New School jargon). Every six months, the school organizes an exposition of the « artworks » of the pupils and at the first such exposition during his stay in this school, CSM exhibits his painting named « Rollercoaster ».
This masterpiece, which was stolen years later from the Liggett Center of Manufactured Art in Chicago during an exhibition , constitutes a vivid, condensed form of the impressions of the artist during his birth. The rollercoaster, which ressembles, and is later termed, « Car » is probably his mother’s womb, which, by the mastery of the artist’s subtle paintbrush strokes, is transformed into a swan’s stomach wherein is seen an iridescent pearl. Lest we forget : this work of art was created by a six or seven year old boy.
